Keeping Faith

Rescue group saves special dog, now looking for special home

Faith was rescued by an Angels Among Us Pet Rescue volunteer, and is now safe in a foster home. However, because she does not get along with other animals, she must live in a downstairs office and is lonely.

Angels Among Us would like to find her a forever home where she will be a member of the family. A video of Faith can be viewed at www.petfinder.com/petdetail/16029960

Faith was discovered by a county animal control officer after she had been left in a house for more than a month without food or water. Her owner had been taken to a nursing home and Faith had been left behind. By the time she was rescued, she was extremely emaciated and barely able to walk. (See last photo to get an idea about her condition when she was found.)

Angels Among Us soon discovered that the persistent food deprivation had left Faith almost skeleton-like, blind in one eye and with poor balance. Her condition was so bad that euthanization was considered. However, she did not seem to be in any distress, wagged her tail quite a bit and loved attention.

Faith received extensive vet care and then moved into her current foster home. She is now doing great and looks like an entirely different dog. She has gained weight (she now weighs about 40 pounds) and strength. She still runs with a slightly odd gait but gets around very well. She is housebroken and loves to go outside. She doesn't like the rain – like most dogs – unless she is wearing her little yellow rain jacket.

Faith is a happy dog and an easy one to have around. For the most part she hangs out in her foster mom's office. She is content to just snooze for periods of time, and then gets up with her tail wagging and asks to go outside or to play. (Before either of these, however, she will expect a hug.) Several times a day she becomes quite playful, chases her tail and runs around the yard in big circles. She loves squeaky toys and will play "fetch" until you become tired of it.

Faith loves children and kids respond strongly to her.

Faith does not get along with other dogs or cats, and must be the only pet. Faith struggles a bit with stairs, and will have difficulty in a home where she must frequently go up and down long flights of stairs.

She can, however, do a short flight of steps or occasionally a long staircase that is carpeted. She does not walk well on a leash, and is not suited for someone who wants a dog for long walks. She must have a fenced-in yard, and hopefully an owner who will frequently play "fetch" with her.

Faith is loaded with personality and has various little quirks that are endearing. She bonds quickly to people and will be devoted to her new owner(s).

Faith's foster mom says, "Faith is a very, very special dog. She would be a wonderful companion for someone who wants a sweet, funny, playful dog who will give so much love to her lucky family."

Faith has been spayed, tested for heartworm disease (and kept current on heartworm preventative), up-to-date on vaccinations, and microchipped. (The rescue group pays for her microchip registration) She is being offered at a reduced adoption fee because of her special-needs status.
